I did the same last year. Had an almost 3 year old Mate2, when the Mate 9 was announced, the 8 price dropped.
Other than the dual camera, and perhaps getting an update past 7.0 (last one I got), not much that I'd want in the 9, so I'll just stick with the 8 I guess, unless they discount it further, then I'll get it, make the 8 a "backup" phone.
